| Systematic wood anatomy of the tribe Guettardeae (Rubiaceae). The wood anatomy of nearly all genera of the Guettardeae (Rubiaceae, Guettardoideae) has been examined, and in this respect the tribe is heterogeneous. Suggestions are made for a delimitation of the tribe. Guettarda, Bobea, Antirhea, Malanea and Chomelia Jacq. are sufficiently similar in their wood anatomical characters to warrant retention in the same tribe. Machaonia, Timonius and Dichilanthe are anomalous. Suggestions are given for taxonomic revisions of some genera based on their wood anatomy. |

| Detailed wood anatomical descriptions are given for the genera Anthospermum, Nenax, Phyllis, Carpacoce, Coprosma, Neogaillonia, Crocyllis, Plocama and Spermadictyon, and miscellaneous wood anatomical data on the genera Normandia, Pomax, Opercularia, Leptodermis and Aitchisonia. The wood anatomical variation within the large genus Anthospermum is discussed. Secondary woodiness is likely to occur in a number of Anthospermum species; other species of the genus have “normal” wood structure or are herbaceous. Nenax and Carpacoce may also have secondary woodiness. | Prosseguindo as pesquisas sobre a vegetação das Dunas do Abaeté, Salvador, Bahia, apresentam-se as Rubiaceae: Borreria cymosa e Chiococca brachiata. Cortes histológicos à mão livre, com lâminas de barbear, seguindo-se as técnicas de rotina. Estudaram-se as epidermes, mesofilo, nervura central, bordo e pecíolo. Contaram-se os estômatos por área foliar. Folhas dorsiventrais e hipoestomáticas, glabras, cutícula adaxial espessa e brilhante. | São apresentados dados sobre a anatomia das folhas de Rudgea decipiens e R. macrophylla (Rubiaceae). Ambas ocorrem na Floresta de Tijuca (Mata Atlântica), Rio de Janeiro. As folhas são hipostomáticas, com estômatos do tipo paralelocítico, dotadas de mesofilo dorsiventral, feixes vasculares do tipo colateral, papilas na epiderme abaxial e cutícula estriada. Em R. macrophylla, destaca-se a ocorrência de estômatos peculiares. |

| Psychotria ipecacuanha é uma espécie medicinal da família Rubiaceae, importante pela produção em suas raízes do alcalóide emetina. Foram feitas análises das três populações disjuntas que compõem a espécie e que ocorrem na América Central (Nicarágua, Costa Rica e Panamá) e Colômbia, sul da Floresta Amazônica (Rondônia e Mato Grosso) e Mata Atlântica (Pernambuco até Paraná). Foram utilizados, no estabelecimento dos limites inter e intraespecíficos, todos os dados morfológicos vegetativos e reprodutivos disponíveis e feita análise dos componentes principais, que permitiram concluir que não existem diferenças significativas entre as populações examinadas. | The Vanguerieae is a tribe consisting of about 500 species ordered in 27 genera. Although this tribe is mainly represented in Africa and Madagascar, Vanguerieae also occur in tropical Asia, Australia, and the isles of the Pacific Ocean. This study gives a detailed wood anatomical description of 34 species of 15 genera based on LM and SEM observations. The secondary xylem is homogeneous throughout the tribe and fits well into the Ixoroideae s.l. on the basis of fibre-tracheids and diffuse to diffuse-in-aggregates axial parenchyma. | The Vanguerieae is a large tribe of the subfamily Ixoroideae (Rubiaceae) and consists of about 500 species in 27 genera. This study gives a detailed pollen morphological description of 30 species from 16 genera, based on light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The Vanguerieae are considered to be stenopalynous, although there is some evidence to question this. | The secondary xylem of Craterispermeae, Coussareeae, Morindeae s.str., Prismatomerideae, Pauridiantheae, Urophylleae, and Triainolepideae (Rubiaceae, Rubioideae) is described and illustrated in detail. Genera that were previously placed in the Morindeae or Psychotrieae such as Damnacanthus, Lasianthus, Saldinia, and Trichosfachys are also included. Wood anatomical characters are compared with recent phylogenetic insights into the study group on the basis of molecular data. | Changes in generic concepts and delimitation resulted in 80 genera (6 of which are cultivated) of Philippine Rubiaceae. Generic descriptions of all genera are coded in DELTA format (Version 2000) and translated by the directive CONFOR into INTKEY database for interactive identification and information retrieval. The descriptions incorporate mostly compiled data of Philippine Rubiaceae species and observations on over 130 characters. Recently accepted classification (subfamily, tribes, and subtribes) and significant characters defined by Robbrecht (1988, 1993) are appended to the generic descriptions. | A taxonomic revision of Amaracarpus Blume (Rubiaceae, Psychotrieae) is presented. The salient characteristics of Amaracarpus are given, with particular attention to the differences between Amaracarpus, Dolianthus and Psychotria. The taxonomic account includes a key to species, an informal (artificial) subgeneric classification, full descriptions, and a list of specimens examined. Amaracarpus comprises 22 species: six new combinations are proposed, one new species is described, eight species are moved to other genera, the transfer of 12 species to Psychotria is confirmed, and numerous taxa are placed into synonymy.
